#tbt

Yes, I did it.
I did the hash tag.
The throwback thursday.
Yup.

Over a year ago I did a galaxy t-shirt blog.

http://kateandmidnightscorner.blogspot.com/2013/07/galaxy-shirt.html

(Link is above)
(Just in case you couldn't figure that out)

OKAY.
Since that post I have improved on my galaxy painting methods. I hate using the red paint and bleach so I have diverted from the typical galaxy tutorials. A while after making my t-shirt, I painted some old black canvas shoes that were too small. I just wanted to try painting some. (They turned out awesome btws but of course they didn't fit so.)

SO.
I painted some shoes that actually fit today.
Here we go:

Materials
Canvas shoes in black or navy (or you could use blue, purple, or white shoes you just have to change your paint colors) I used navy converse that I had lying around. If I hadn't already had them I would've just bought some cheap shoes from Walmart.
Paint (I used red, blue and white. I didn't have purple so I mixed but it's easier to just buy purple)
Toothbrush if you have one but you don't HAVE to have it
Masking tape (This is a must unless you are SUPER careful)
Bowls
Water
Mixing utensils
Sponges/Sponge Brushes
Paint Brushes
And uh if I forgot anything else you'll see it in the blog and you can add it to your list of supplies. :)

Step-1: Gather your stuff.

Step-2: Take those laces out. Tape up them shoes. (I'd recommend stuffing the shoes with napkins or something to make them easier to paint.)

Step-3: Paint. (Left to Right) The mixing for purple. The mixing for light blue. The mixing of blue. The mixing of pink. (Which I ended up not using so just forget about it. Should've cropped it out)

Step-4: Sponge paint in random spots.

Step-5: Sponge in some white. Take the end of a paintbrush and dot.

Step-6: Dip a toothbrush (not your normal one-an old/extra one) in white paint. Take your finger and pull back the bristles on the toothbrush to fling little dots on the shoe. Also, take a pencil, dip in white paint and draw "x" shapes to look like stars.

Step-I lost count: Take some glitter glue and paint on if you want. I like to. You need sparkle. Lots of sparkle.

Step-Yeah...: I put Liquid Silicone on my shoes to waterproof them. I don't plan on taking these in water but just in case...I don't want my hard work to wash away.

Step-YOU ARE DONE:

Midnight had to inspect.
They look better in person. They turned out pretty fabulous if I do say so myself.

It's 1 a.m. Me and Miss Midnight are hitttin' the hay.
Good luck painting!
THANKS FOR READING. You're fabulous. ;)

I'm Back

It's almost been a year of no blogging.
I've been busy.
Well not really.
I've been lazy.
School.
A.P. Government.
Papers for English.
Reading.
Sewing.
Taking care of my cat.
(note none of these reasons include a social life)
I actually do have a semi-social life.
I have my bff's.
Sabrina. Anna. Gabby.
They're fab.
I don't know why I'm pressing enter after each sentence.
Enter.
Enter.
Enter.
So yeah.
I will probz go back to the crafting blog.
I've improved in my projects.
I have made.....
Aprons.
Pillows.
Tea cozies.
Tea towels.
Quilt blocks.
Patchwork quilts.
Potholders.
Here's a few pictures:

Yada yada yada.
Well, I'm off to do my summer homework.
Reading The Count of Monte Cristo
Wohoo.
Why is this still underlining.
I turned the underling button thing off.
Oh. Here we go.
Adios Folks.
I was going to end this with a cute picture of my cat.
But I can't find any on my computer.
And I don't wanna go take one.
Laziness. Oh well.

Being Philosophical.

I haven't blogged in a while. I don't know what to write about. I don't even know who I am writing to.

School starts in 10 days.
10 days.

WHY.

I got my schedule the other day. I have 8 classes first semester. Sigh. The summer flew by. Of course, a new school year starting means the sooner the year will be over. Which means the sooner I'll be done with school. Not that I dislike school of course. I hope to be a teacher someday. I dislike the people. A whole bunch of kids squished into one building just isn't my idea of fun. A whole bunch of kids desperate to be 'cool'. Kids bragging about how drunk or high they got last night. Who they're dating. I really don't want to go back and listen to who's dating who. 'Dating' (if you can even call it that) in high school seems to be more of a game. Who can I make jealous? Who will make me more popular? Who can I date that will take me to prom? Blah blah blah. I don't see the joy in it all. Either be in a relationship for a few months (or weeks. or days.) that will just come to an end and cause heartache, or be in a long lasting relationship that will probably involve a lot of stress. I guess there's exceptions though- if you have a so called fairy tail relationship.

Fairy tails. Which brings me to another rambling paragraph.

Who even came up with the idea of fairy tails? The Greeks or Romans or the somethings 1000s of years ago? Let me go Google it. Or maybe I'll Yahoo it. I definitely won't Bing it. (I hate Bing.)

............................................................................

Well, I Googled it, then went to Wikipedia (I trust Wikipedia thank-you very much) HOWEVER, I am way to lazy to dissect they entire article to find a clear answer. Go read it yourself if need be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairy_tale

Back to my Fairy tail rambling/paragraph/thing. I love Cinderella. The movie? I sing along to every song. Honestly though, fairy tails are all the same. At least the Disney ones are. All the girls can sing. They wear a bow or rag or doorag or whatever. Almost all of them marry Prince Charming. (Can you say player?!)

Hullabaloo.

My laptop is about to die. Which is probably a sign that this post needs to end soon. Before I try to be anymore philosophical.

Happy Friday!

Go read a book.

Galaxy Shirt

Galaxy clothing has become rather popular lately. I am way to cheap to go pay $20 or more for a shirt I could easily make at home.(With the help of pinterest of course)  I made my own shirt at home and posted it on Facebook, and my best friend texted me asking for directions. Therefore, I shall write a how-to blog just for her. :)

Materials:
Black T-shirt
Bleach
Water
Spray Bottle (I used a travel size)
Red, Blue, and White paint
Glitter Glue/Paint (Optional)

Step 1.
Slide cardboard in your shirt so the bleach does not soak through. Fill up a spray bottle with half bleach, half water. I barely used any of the mixture when spraying my shirt. You do not need a lot.

I sprayed my shirt around 7 o'clock in the evening, and didn't rinse it with cold water until 10 o'clock in the morning. You obviously don't have to wait this long.

 Step 2: Paint time!
Mix paint with some water. I used sponge brushes. I also used the red and blue to make a purple paint.
Step 3: Sponge red paint around the bleach spots or wherever.
Step 4: (I apologize for not having anymore good pictures; I had a lot of paint on my hands and did not want to touch the camera) Then blue, and purple. Basically, you just sponge paint into random places.  I also put white paint in the  center of the bleach spots to lighten it up.  I then dipped a paint brush (it is better to use a toothbrush I've heard, but I had no old tooth brushes) and flicked paint specks onto the shirt. I then dipped a sharp pencil into paint and drew x's and t's to make stars. I also took some silver glitter glue and brushed into onto the white spots.
Later on that evening I decided that there just wasn't enough glitter. (I probably went overboard. Just a tad. :) I brushed red glitter glue onto the red spots in random areas, and blue glitter glue onto the blue spots in random areas.
I wasn't 'thrilled' with the overall product, but for the most part I like it. It was mainly the material of the shirt; I got it from Goodwill and it was a sort of cashmere like material. It was just weird. I'd recommend using a cotton tee.

Wednesdays.

I finished the fourth season of Doctor Who.
Rose has the duplicate Doctor.
Donna can't remember anything.
The Doctor has no one. (Even though obviously he'll find a new companion soon.)

I feel sad for him, which is weird 'cause it's just a t.v. show, right?
But the real Doctor and Rose should be together. It's just weird. And dumb. And annoying.
So I went on Pinterest and found solace in their pictures.

Aww I love the Doctor and Rose
SEE. Rose is right.
The Doctor and Rose.......so....many......FEELS!!!!
They were supposed to be together. Forever.
Rose and the doctor
She came back for him.
Rose and the Doctor...the moment when your heart breaks
But then was forced to leave again.
first time i cried because of a TV show.
I mean he burned up a SUN just to say goodbye the first time.

Well, at least  Rose and the duplicate Doctor are together. They'll die together.

I'm just . . . bleh. And it's a Wednesday. I need to clean. I need to cook. But I feel empty.
ALSO. Last night, while I was being sad about Doctor Who, a Roach came scurrying across the living room floor. I hate roaches. Of course, I don't know anyone who likes roaches. Thanks to the help of my cat, Midnight we were able to defeat the horrible creature. Yuck.

Owl Pincushion

I am always leaving my pins everywhere for people to step on.
And I love owls.
SO, I figured, why not make on owl pincushion?

And make on owl pincushion I did. I couldn't find any owl pincushions I liked on pinterest, so I just printed off an owl template craft.

Cut out the shapes and pinned them to the material. The material was just random scraps.
Pinned it all together. (I decided to use buttons for the eyes)
Sewed it all up, stuffed it with a rag, and inserted the pins!

DOCTOR WHO PURSE

I made a T.A.R.D.I.S purse! It's the first major project I accomplished with my new sewing machine.

The inspiration.

And the process to achieving this bag.
Warning: This is a very long blog.

So let's begin, shall we?

I didn't buy a pattern because quite frankly,  patterns are overpriced. I based the  T.A.R.D.I.S. purse off of this one.

Layed out my material . . . 1 1/2 yard navy, 1/4 yard white, 1/4 yard black.

I used wax paper to make myself a pattern.

As Midnight watched.
Made the outside of the bag.
I wanted to use a galaxy type material for the lining, but I couldn't find any. I went to the Salvation Army and found an old king sized pillow case to use. I think it fitted nicely.
Ta-da.

I printed off letters then used a nice to cut them out.

Traced with a white crayon . . .
And began the tedious task of embroidering.
*Finished*

Meanwhile elsewhere in the house . . . cats sitting on top of a mattress. Seems normal.

Pinned the letters to the bag.

I made a template for the windows on Word. Then used the knife to cut it out again. I laid it on top of the material so I'd  cut the material and the paper at the same time.

. . . Now that was a pain. And took forever. And ever.

Attached the windows and sign! ALMOST DONE.

Worked on the strap.

Mom: "Want me to take a picture of you?"
. . . "Shouldn't I not post my face on my blog?"
. . . "Well your head will be down."

So thus, she took a picture. I posted.

Attached it! And FINISHED.

This project was fun! For the most part it was easy. I did want to add the sign on the front of the T.A.R.D.I.S. to make a pocket, but alas, I had no transfer paper. I don't use pockets much though. I guess I could always add pockets, right?
