DOCTOR WHO PURSE

I made a T.A.R.D.I.S purse! It's the first major project I accomplished with my new sewing machine.

The inspiration.

And the process to achieving this bag.
Warning: This is a very long blog.

So let's begin, shall we?

I didn't buy a pattern because quite frankly,  patterns are overpriced. I based the  T.A.R.D.I.S. purse off of this one.

Layed out my material . . . 1 1/2 yard navy, 1/4 yard white, 1/4 yard black.

I used wax paper to make myself a pattern.

As Midnight watched.
Made the outside of the bag.
I wanted to use a galaxy type material for the lining, but I couldn't find any. I went to the Salvation Army and found an old king sized pillow case to use. I think it fitted nicely.
Ta-da.

I printed off letters then used a nice to cut them out.

Traced with a white crayon . . .
And began the tedious task of embroidering.
*Finished*

Meanwhile elsewhere in the house . . . cats sitting on top of a mattress. Seems normal.

Pinned the letters to the bag.

I made a template for the windows on Word. Then used the knife to cut it out again. I laid it on top of the material so I'd  cut the material and the paper at the same time.

. . . Now that was a pain. And took forever. And ever.

Attached the windows and sign! ALMOST DONE.

Worked on the strap.

Mom: "Want me to take a picture of you?"
. . . "Shouldn't I not post my face on my blog?"
. . . "Well your head will be down."

So thus, she took a picture. I posted.

Attached it! And FINISHED.

This project was fun! For the most part it was easy. I did want to add the sign on the front of the T.A.R.D.I.S. to make a pocket, but alas, I had no transfer paper. I don't use pockets much though. I guess I could always add pockets, right?

Rag Wreath!

I really love rag projects right now. For a couple of months my mom has been complaining about how she wants a new wreath. So, about a month ago, I came across a 4th of July wreath. Made from rags! But we didn't have any patriotic rags . . .

So off to Joann Crafts we went.

We got the biggest foam wreath they had which wasn't very big. Mom picked out three different types of material. Personally, I would've gotten more, but material isn't cheap. :(

There was 1/2 a yard each type of fabric. I cut the strips 10 inches long. The site said to do 14 so if you want a more full wreath, do that. I didn't take long at all to complete this project.

Basically that's the end. Just tie each strip twice and go all around. I pushed the strips close together to make it look more full. It didn't have any wire to make a hanger for the back so I used an extra strip of fabric and pinned it on.

Midnight was wore out from all the hard work.

Happy Crafting! :)

Starbucks, Doctor Who, and Rag Rugs

A while back I saw an idea on Pinterest . . . a RAG RUG. I used to think those things ugly . . . but it all depends on the material. I decided to make one of my own.
Here is the original pin:

Yesterday I ventured to Joann Crafts to get supplies to make the rug. After gathering materials I was homeward bound. First, however, I needed fuel . . . or, well, Starbucks.
Strawberries & Cream . . . Mmmm.

I got home, plugged in my computer, pulled up Doctor Who, & laid out my materials,

Finally finished cutting up my rag strips! *Excuse my knee with Snoopy pj's*

I began making the rug; (All you do is slip the material between the holes. No need to tie. It looks better if you don't tie it. *Still a Snoopy knee*

Then I decided that I wanted to add a patterned material. This material was from a dress that my Grandmother had made me when I was eight and had gone to visit Laura Ingalls Wilder's home.

Mid-stage.

Finished! I ended up not having enough strips. (I bought 1/2 yard (each) of three different colors of flannel plus the dress scraps. In the end, I used an old blue t-shirt and a white t-shirt in order to make more strips. I'd recommend getting  3 yards of material or more to make this rug. The rug is around a half of a yard long. Oh, and Miss Midnight had to check it out when I was done.

And so did Mr. Benny.

I really enjoyed making this rug. It was very time consuming & I ended up watching almost an entire season of Doctor Who (Best show ever! Seriously, it's amazing.) So you know, this is a simple project and no-sew. A young child could easily do this. Plus, it only requires to two materials: Rug backing & Material. Hope you try making it yourself!

The Beginning Blog

The other day, I proclaimed to my mother "I am going to start a blog!" So start this blog I have. This blog has no purpose. It will be full of my crafts from pinterest. (Pinterest rules my life.) It will also show the life of a cat lady. I have a cat name Midnight who is two years old. She is also very fat. Very fat. Occasionally you may get a glance of her brother, Benny. He's old and should probably be on anti-depressants. I also have a dog named Jenny. She's a nut but the best dog you can get. So you know, welcome to my blogs beginnings. May you remain sane throughout your viewing
